LUCKNOW: Clearing the air on previous Akhilesh government's ambitious Etawah lion safari project, forest minister, Dara Singh Chauhan, on Thursday said he will seek time from chief minister Yogi Adityanath for inauguration of the safari. "It will be inaugurated very soon," he said.
To make it easy for the farmers, an app will help farmers get a fair price for their timber.
The app being designed by UP forest corporation will allow the farmer to feed the details regarding the girth, height and species of the tree that he wishes to sell and know the minimum support price (MSP) for the timber.
If the farmer is willing he can sell the timber to the forest corporation or hunt for a better deal in the market. The farmer will not be required to cut the tree into logs as the corporation would auction the `standing' tree. The MSP will be moved to the bank account of the farmer.
Besides, individuals now need not seek permission from the forest department to cut and transport the trees (timber) grown on the private land which makes it easier for farmers to sell the timber.
The new forest policy makes seeking permission necessary for only five species (mango, neem, sal, mahua and khair) in 62 districts and six species (mango, neem, sal, mahua, khair and sagaun) in 13 districts of Terai region.
"This has been the biggest achievement of the department," said the minister while presenting the work done by the department in last six months.
UP will have a Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF). The department of home has issued a GO for three-year deputation of 112 police personnel in the forest department. The period of deputation can further be increased by two years.

The department has started proceedings to bring 12 elephants from Karnataka for patrolling tiger reserves. To control man-animal conflict in Pilibhit solar fencing will be done for 250km. It is being done for 25kms in the initial phase.
The minister said since Prime Minister's constituency is in UP the state gets lot of visitors. People wish to see the famous spots in the state. Chuka in Pilibhit is being developed apart from Kukrail in Lucknow, Katarniaghat sanctuary and Dudhwa reserve.
