The government hospital at B.Kothakota mandal headquarters in Madanapalle division is now in a shambles, and the plight of the precarious structure is further worsened with incessant rains in the division since a couple of days.

The hospital, located faraway from Madanapalle town, caters to a population of nearly 80,000 from B.Kothakota and PTM mandals. On Thursday night, a portion of the hospital’s roof fell down, while the cement layers at various corners got peeled off. The rainwater entered the wards and outpatient block, damaging the medicines and clinical equipment kept in cartons. Due to heavy rains, the general patient strength has considerably come down in the hospital, as against its usual strength in hundreds daily. Local revenue officials who visited the hospital on Friday morning observed that the structure would be dangerous if allowed to function any further.

The local people deplored that though a new hospital building had come up in B.Kothakota several months ago, due to political reasons the inauguration has been kept in abeyance.

The local people alleged that the hospital in a dilapidated condition had not proper strength to function to the requirements of the patients in the region. They said that the medical and paramedical staff were irregular to duties. The medical officer could not be contacted as the mobile phone was switched off.

The locals said that they had brought the plight of the hospital to the notice of the District Collector.
