NGO objects to Aravalli project

Faridabad: The decision of the Forest Department to set up ‘Gateway of Aravallis’, a special green zone consisting of non-traditional breeds of trees on the Faridabad-Gurugram highway, has not gone down well with Save Aravalli, an NGO.

Faridabad: The decision of the Forest Department to set up ‘Gateway of Aravallis’, a special green zone consisting of non-traditional breeds of trees on the Faridabad-Gurugram highway, has not gone down well with Save Aravalli, an NGO. Objecting to the axing of local vegetation to give way to non-native plants, Jitender Bhadana of the NGO asked how the department was going to ensure survival of these trees when it was reeling under fund and staff crunch. “Majority of the 2,500 trees planted last year have dried up,” he claimed. 

Kurukshetra villages to get ‘board of fame’ 

Kurukshetra: The district administration will display ‘boards of fame’ at each of 417 villages by the month-end. Dharamvir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), said the state government’s initiative was aimed at apprising the younger generation of the glorious history of villages. Under the scheme, Gram Gaurav Patts (village pride display boards) will be installed in every panchayat of the state. The ADC said historical details of the village concerned, names of eminent personalities belonging to the villages, important contribution of an individual or the village itself would be written on the board. “Such persons will include freedom fighters, war martyrs, persons martyred during terrorist attacks, sportspersons, philanthropists, artists, social or political leaders of national and state level,” he said. 

Govt to rank villages on basis of development

Hisar: Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar has advised people to consider development of a village as the major criteria before selecting a match for their daughters. The Development and Panchayat Minister said all 7,000 villages in the state would be ranked on a scale of 1 to 7 on the basis of infrastructure, cleanliness, power arrears, crime, tree plantation and benefits under various government schemes. “The ranking will help families to choose a particular village for their daughters, as it will reflect on the facilities in that village,” he said. He was interacting with mediapersons during the launch of three-day convention of panchayat representatives in Bhiwani on Friday. 

Teacher spreads awareness through wall paintings 

Panipat: Pradeep Malik, an art teacher at Government Senior Secondary School, Israna, is painting the walls of the school to make students aware of cleanliness, sports, village life and Haryanavi culture. After teaching, he spends two-three hours daily to beautify the school walls. “I am trying to build a positive image of government schoolteachers,” says Malik. He has been honoured by the Governor, Chief Minister and from Education Minister for his different artistic paintings and rangolis. 

‘Rath’ launched to enroll youths for skill development programme 

Mahendragarh: The district administration has launched Mission Antyodaya and Gram Samridhi Kaushal rath to enroll women and youths for skill development training programmes in order to make them self-reliant.“The rath prepared under Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission will cover 83 villages of the district in 18 days. It will motivate villagers to get them registered for skill development training for self-employment,” said DC Garima Mittal after flagging off the rath in Narnaul town here recently. The DC maintained two skill development experts would accompany the rath to inform the villagers about skill development programmes being run by the government and encourage them to get enrolled for training. 

Vedic maths to be taught at women university

SONEPAT: Vedic mathematics will be taught to girl students of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur Kalan, in the district to make them aware about the rich and prosperous culture of the Vedic era of the country .   Vice-Chancellor of the university SP Bansal says it has also been decided that a dedicated website will be prepared to offer short courses in Vedic mathematics to desirous students and general people. The university will establish a research chair in the name of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya to disseminate information about his philosophy of ‘Integral Humanism’.
