CHITTOOR : After 22 years, Neeva river breached its banks and inundated several colonies in the slum areas of Chittoor on Monday. By the evening, 13 of the 15 colonies in Thena Banda and Veerabhadra slum areas were submerged. Residents of nine colonies were given warnings to vacate their houses and spend the night at Thena Banda Government High School. Due to incessant rain in Yadamari mandal and some pockets in Tamil Nadu, the river got floods.

These colonies had come up after encroachments on the riverbed of Neeva. The Chittoor RDO sent revenue inspectors to the colonies to collect information about flooding. Beerappa tank and Morava Vagu, located in the forest area of Irala mandal, are overflowing and flood water has reached Gargeya. Irrigation engineers are monitoring the flood flow in the river and streams and relief operations.
