The body of a man, who reportedly went missing five days ago, was recovered from inside a refrigerator at his friend’s rented accommodation in south Delhi’s Mehrauli Saturday morning, police said. A meat chopper has been recovered from the spot, police added. The victim, identified as Vipin Chand Joshi, had gone missing on October 9, police said, adding that his friend — Badal Mandal — whose house he was found in, is missing.
On October 12, Joshi’s brother approached police and lodged a missing person’s complaint. During their search, police found out that both Joshi and Mandal were absent from work for a couple of days. Both were last seen together near Mandal’s house. Police also said Mandal lived with his wife and two children but had recently sent them back to his hometown in West Bengal.
Police said investigation has revealed that both of them worked in a south Delhi restaurant as bartenders, and lived in the same locality. On October 9, both of them left work together, police said.
“When we went to Mandal’s house in Saidulajab to look for Joshi, we found it locked from the outside. Our team broke open the door and saw blood spattered all across the house. A foul smell was emanating and the refrigerator door was left ajar. The body, cut in pieces, was in the refrigerator, inside black plastic bags,” said a police officer privy to the details of the case.
“The body parts were later identified as that of Joshi’s,” added the officer. Additional DCP (south) Chinmoy Biswal said a case of murder. “The main suspect as of now is Mandal. A team has been sent to West Bengal to find him,” he said.
