CNN commentator Van Jones characterized President Trump as “transparently” lying about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in a press conference Monday.

Jones said, “One of the things that’s very interesting is [Trump’s] whole brand is how authentic he is. He gets up there, transparently lies about how much he loves McConnell and how much they get along, meanwhile, his best buddy is like sharpening the knives and getting ready to take the guy out. Maybe not as authentic today as he might pretend to be.”
Van Jones is referring to the fact that Steve Bannon, Trump’s former White House chief strategist and Breitbart News chair, is looking to do battle with establishment Republicans in primaries across the country. Bannon already successfully supported Judge Roy Moore to replace Trump-backed Luther Strange in an Alabama primary runoff in September.
