A suspended St. Thomas police officer will next appear in court in November on several charges, including sexual assault and sexual exploitation involving a teenage girl.

Const. Garry Christiansen’s case was scheduled to be heard in court Tuesday, but Justice Cheri Emrich agreed to move it to Nov. 7. Court was told a Crown attorney from Toronto is handling the case.

Christiansen was not in court Tuesday.

Christiansen was arrested Oct. 5. He was charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, sexual exploitation and assault. St. Thomas police launched a separate investigation into him one day later.

Police brass have declined to comment on the investigation, citing the ongoing probe by Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit.

Multiple attempts to contact Chistiansen were unsuccessful.
