Nuzvid IIIT student attempts suicide

A first-year PUC student attempted to kill himself by consuming pills at IIIT Nuzvid, which has seen two suicides in the last seven days.

VIJAYAWADA: A first-year PUC student attempted to kill himself by consuming pills at IIIT Nuzvid, which has seen two suicides in the last seven days. D Balu Vardhan was admitted to the campus hospital after he complained of fatigue and fell unconscious around 11 pm on Monday. Vardhan, whose parents are farmers, belongs to Amalapuram of East Godavari district.

“We received a message from Nuzvid IIIT director V Venkata Dasu that Balu had been hospitalised. During inquiry, we came to know that he attempted suicide by consuming pills. However, the college management has a different version. They say he took the pills to treat his ache,” said the CI Ramkumar.
After first aid, he was referred to a government hospital. “A stomach wash was performed.

The pills have been sent to a laboratory for testing. We believe Balu attempted suicide because he was depressed over his poor performance in English,” the CI said. On October 10, Sagireddy Purna Lakshmi Narasimha Murthy committed suicide by hanging himself and D Ramadevi jumped to her death four days later on October 14 in the campus. Ramkumar suspects Nuzvid IIIT management is erasing all evidence from the scenes of offence.

“Before we arrived at the crime scene, college managements tampered with the evidence at the scene and cleaned the area with bleaching powder. Why did they take six hours to call us? We do not understand why they are doing this. When a crime occurs, even if it is a suicide, they should inform the police immediately,” said the CI.
