Legendary NYC news anchor dies after long cancer battle

Pioneering TV newswoman Michele Marsh, who anchored newscasts for both WNBC and WCBS, died following a long bout with cancer, the stations said Wednesday.

She was 63.

Marsh joined Channel 2 in 1979, anchoring newscasts with the likes of Jim Jensen, Rolland Smith, Ernie Anastos and John Johnson.

“My heart sank today to hear we lost Michele Marsh,” tweeted Anthony Mason, co-host of “CBS News This Morning: Saturday.”

Mason called Marsh “one of the biggest stars in golden era of NYC TV news.”

She joined Channel 4 in 1996 and shared an anchor desk with Chuck Scarborough before leaving TV news in 2003.

“So sad to hear this. I looked up to her so much and when I got to WNBC, she was so kind and welcoming,” tweeted WNBC’s Darlene Rodriguez.

Marsh had been battling breast cancer before she died in her home in South Kent, Connecticut, on Tuesday. She’s survived by her husband, son and daughter-in-law.
