NEW DELHI: A man in his 30s was mowed down by a vehicle in Chanakyapuri area in New Delhi on Friday evening.
Police have registered a case against the unknown driver under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death due to negligence) of the IPC and are further investigating the case.
The incident took place at around 7.30pm near a five-star hotel on Sardar Patel Marg. Locals made a PCR call after which a police team reached the spot and found a person in his 30s lying injured on the road.
The victim was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Police have so far not been able to find any identification of the deceased.
Cops are scrubbing through the CCTV footage of the area to determine the identity of the accused. They are also trying to ascertain if there were any eyewitnesses to the accident.
Initial probe has revealed that the man was hit while trying to cross the road. “A vehicle going towards Dhaula Kuan hit the victim and the driver did not stop the car after hitting the man,” said a senior police officer.
In another incident, a motorcylist died after he was hit by speeding car on the Shalimar Bagh flyover on Saturday evening. An unidentified car hit the motorcylist from behind and the impact was such that the rider fell off the flyover. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and are further probing the case.
