Lorry runs over woman, daughter at Banaswadi

A woman and her daughter were run over by a speeding lorry when they were crossing the Outer Ring Road in Banaswadi early Monday morning. The deceased, Vellacchi (70), and her daughter Vasantha (49), were residents of Babusapalaya.

Vellacchi stayed with Vasantha, who was a domestic help, police said. According to police, the accident occurred at around 6.20 am at the Babusapalaya bus stop. Vellacchi had gone to her native Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu for Deepavali and had returned to the city in a bus. She got down from the bus at the bus stop, where her daughter was waiting for her. Both were crossing the road when the lorry knocked them down. The two women died on the spot, the police said. The driver abandoned the lorry and fled.

The police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the BR Ambedkar Hospital for post mortem. The Banaswadi police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the driver. The lorry has been seized.
