KAKINADA: Seventy-two students of a BC Welfare Girls’ Hostel were hospitalised at Jaggampeta and Kakinada in East Godavari district on Monday when they began throwing up after consuming their midday meals. The condition of 16 students is said to be critical.

Hospital sources said that the children started vomiting and developed diarrhoea after eating Khichidi from the hostel in Jaggampeta.A team of doctors administered Intravenous (IV) fluids to students who were admitted as inpatients. “This is to replace the fluid lost from their bodies owing to dehydration caused by vomiting,” a doctor at Jaggampeta GGH said. The condition of the students is being closely monitored and they are likely to be discharged on Tuesday,” he said.

Hostel staff and warden Chamundeswari shifted 16 critically ill students to the Kakinada Government General Hospital. Peddapuram RDO Visweswara Rao, Jaggampeta tahsildar Sevamma and police officials visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of students.
