The Coventry City takeover saga took a new twist over the past week after Nuneaton poker player Dale Evans showed his hand.

Evans, a self-proclaimed multi-millionaire, left many supporters calling his bluff after a series of seemingly contradictory statements on social media, and during press interviews, where he claimed to be interested in buying the club and to have made offers.

But it now appears he is the real deal after Gary Hoffman , former CCFC vice chairman and respected banker, invited him into his takeover consortium - satisfied that he does posses significant wealth.

However, there appears to be little sign of the club’s London hedge fund owners Sisu folding, with two public statements issued denying any contact with Mr Evans.

The drama has caused quite a storm on social media this week, with Telegraph readers going all in when it came to having their say.

Here are some of your comments.

Stuart Linnell: “A lesson for us all, perhaps, that we shouldn’t just rush to judgement.”

Andy Wood: “Give the bloke a break. Maybe this guy and Mr Hoffman can get something going.

“Any City fan who copped for a few million would do exactly the same, wouldn’t they?

“I’ve decided I’d rather be deluded than engulf myself in a shroud of negativity. Life’s too short.”

Stuart MacLean: “He’s got his poker face on.”

Craig Hurley: “By what this bloke says some the things he comes out with just don’t add up. Attention seeker if you ask me.

“Mad hatter as assistant LOL. Please stop, this is hilarious.

“Best he stop going to media and stop posting on Facebook as he contradicting himself and come back when a deal is done. Good luck to him, but still doubt him.”

Malcolm Tennant: “Well its looks like it’s a serious offer now. Like it or lump it!”

Mark Sewell: “It’s all a bit desperate isn’t it? Can’t we have a mega rich oil sheikh interested instead please?”

Jamie Milbourne: “Not saying I believe it, but of course they’d deny that anything is going on.

“I’d imagine if a deal was to be made then they’d want to do it behind closed doors.”

Russell Peterson: “Still very sceptical as Sisu knocked back three bids in the summer without even talking to Hoffman.”

Mark Woods: “This consortium will eventually rid us of Sisu.”

Martin Warren: “The talking needs to stop. Would rather have things done quietly in order for anything to happen.”

Nathan Watts: “They don’t want to weaken their hand in the courts. They will deny everything until that final hearing in my opinion.”
