A native of Sidharth Nagar district, Farhan and his family had allegedly shifted to Moradabad years ago. “Following a tip-off that a suspicious couple was staying at Mugalpura on rent, a police team visited the house. Farhan and his wife were found there. During a search, a fake driving license, a ration card and a passport was recovered,” Srivastava said, adding that Farhan claimed that his 19-year-old son and his five brothers live in Kuwait.

“During questioning, Farhan said his family had left India for Kuwait when he was a child. After hearing about the 2002 Gujarat riots, he had come to Ahmedabad from Kuwait with an intention to help the riot-hit people. He allegedly stayed in Ahmedabad for nine days and during a visit to Delhi in 2002, he was arrested on charges of carrying explosives and under POTA,” said Mughalpura police Station House Officer Ajay Sirothia.

“Farhan said he was acquitted in the Ahmedabad case in 2009. We are yet to verify the details of the Ahmedabad case. Farhan claimed that he went to Kuwait in June 2016 and returned the next month… He also claimed that as his brothers send him money to run the house, he was not working,” said Sirothia.
