Hooch kills 4 in Rohtas, SHO, 8 cops suspended
Sasaram: At least four villagers died and four others fell ill, two of them seriously, after consuming illicit liquor at Danawar village under the Kachhawa police station area in Rohtas district on Friday evening.
Bihar officially turned a dry state after the Nitish Kumar government enforced prohibition in the state in April 2016.
Irate villagers of Danwar on Saturday blocked the Sikarahata-Nasriganj road for several hours, burning old tyres on the road and shouting slogans against police.

DM Animesh Kumar Parashar and SP M S Dhillon rushed to the village and tried to pacify the agitators, who alleged that liquor trade had been going on unabated in the area in collusion with police.
While nine police personnel, including SHO Mukesh Kumar, of the Kachhawa police station have been placed under suspension, all the 12 constables at the police station have been attached to the Police Lines on the charges of dereliction of duty, Patna zone IG N H Khan told TOI in Patna over phone from Rohtas.
On the other hand, DM Parashar has written to the state government for suspension of excise inspector Raj Kishore Singh and necessary action against assistant excise commissioner (Rohtas) K K Sahu.

Only three of the bodies could be sent for postmortem as the fourth deceased was cremated by his family on Friday itself without informing police.
The deceased have been identified as Kamlesh Singh (30), whose last rites were performed on Friday night, Uday Singh (32), Dhanjee Singh (32) and Harihar Singh (50).
Reports reaching the district HQ said they bought liquor from a local vendor and consumed it on Thursday night. Throughout the night, they vomited and complained of pain in stomach and uneasiness. On Friday morning, they complained of losing eyesight following which they were rushed to the Narayan Medical College & Hospital at Jamuhar, but breathed their last on way.
SP Dhillon said police were waiting for the autopsy report to know the cause of death. DM Parashar said the guilty won’t be spared.
