Former Kedah mufti Sheikh Muhammad Baderudin Ahmad is among three top officers who have joined PAS, the party's mouthpiece Harakah reported.

Besides the former mufti, the party also announced that former Kedah Islamic Council officer Sheikh Mohd Uzaidz Baharom and former Jakim assistant director Mahadir Mohd Noor have also become members of the party.

The announcements were made at a PAS rally its state headquarters in Kedah today.

Mahadir was presented his membership certificate by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Harakah reported that Sheikh Muhammad Baderudin and Sheikh Mohd Uzaidz could not attend the rally due to other engagements.

Malaysiakini at this time was not able to verify independently whether the two had joined the party, or merely expressed support for it.

Previously during PAS' Fastaqim 2.0 rally in Terengganu, the party had touted that several big names would be joining PAS.

However, while several former top civil servants and even former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim expressed support for PAS, none joined the party as members.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan later clarified that 'joining' did not necessarily mean becoming a member.

Meanwhile, Mahadir said he joined PAS because of its mature approach to politics.

"PAS members and leaders are sincere, and they don't expect any payment or reward for their hard work," he was quoted as saying by Harakah.

Mahadir also expressed confidence that PAS can win in the next general election, saying there is a surge of support for the party from the public, including the young.
