PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar is personally meeting those who set an example for others by opposing dowry and child marriage in the state.
The CM on Sunday met retired school principal Harindra Singh of Ara in Bhojpur district and appreciated him for his decision to return the dowry of Rs4 lakh for his younger son’s marriage scheduled on December 3 this year. Singh was impressed by Nitish’s speech at Ara on October 4 on the state government’s campaign against the two social evils.

Nitish not only embraced Singh but also said people like him would be used as a role model in the state campaign.
Nitish also met newlywed couple Prakash Kumar Sah and Puja Kumari from Bhojpur at his residence on Saturday and gave them a certificate of appreciation for solemnizing their marriage without dowry.
Women Development Corporation managing director N Vijayalakshmi said the department had already come up with a book, ‘Udaan’, with stories of those who fought against dowry or child marriage. “We are looking for such examples and will compile their stories in the second edition of the book,” she told TOI.
The CM launched a campaign against dowry and child marriage on Gandhi Jayanti and announced the formation of a human chain on January 21, 2018 to create awareness against the social evils.
