PATNA: Gaya-based businessman
Rajesh Rai (45) was killed and his body was thrown out of his SUV on NH-83 near
Karauna outpost under the Town police station area in
Jehanabad district on Sunday. The SUV with bloodstains inside was later recovered from a brick kiln at Sukhdev Bigha under the Kako police station area of Jehanabad district.
Police sources said Rai owned a travel agency and a furniture showroom at Delha in Gaya.
Rai, who belonged to
Simri in Buxar district, was returning from Patna to
Gaya on Sunday.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Arun Kumar Chaudhary at Karauna outpost said he was returning from night patrolling when a truck driver told him about a suspicious vehicle. “I saw the body being dumped on the road at around 1am and chased the SUV up to Kako Mor, but lost its track thereafter,” Chaudhary told TOI on phone.
Quoting Rai’s family members, Jehanabad SP Manish said the businessman had left Gaya at 4pm on Saturday for Patna and was returning in the night. “Doctors who conducted postmortem said Rai was stabbed on the left side of his neck resulting in his death,” the SP said. “It is yet not clear if the murder was pre-planned or the result of road robbery,” he added.
“Forensic experts and dog squad were called from Patna to gather evidence,” he said. It was yet not clear if the killers were already inside the vehicle with him or his SUV was stopped to loot his vehicle, the SP added.
