VIJAYAWADA: In two different incidents in Krishna district, police arrested 40 persons on charges of gambling and cricket betting on Sunday. While 17 were nabbed from various places in Vijayawada by Commissioner’s Task Force (CTF), Nuzvid rural police arrested 23 persons from a mango garden in Ravicherla village.
Police seized `2.3 lakh cash, four cars and an auto-rickshaw.
Acting on a tip-off that few people are playing clubs illegally in Vijayawada, the CTF police conducted simultaneous surprise raids at Machavaram, Ibrahimpatnam and Kankipadu, where they found people playing cards and betting on the last ODI of India Vs New Zealand match.
All the arrested were sent to respective police stations and cases have been registered against them.
