VC opens Magadh University chess meet
PATNA: Magadh University vice-chancellor (VC) Qamar Ahsan on Sunday stressed on the need of sports for overall development of the students’ personality. “The identity of any university is by its students and their milestone achievements in both academics and sports,” he said.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day MU intercollege men and women chess competitions being held at the College of Commerce, Arts and Science here on Sunday, he said, “Physical exercise is an important and essential part of mental and psychological well-being of human beings.”
The VC said the university would release a sports calendar soon.
Besides, the university is committed to giving incentives and facilities to talented and upcoming sportspersons, he said and added that the MU students had already brought many laurels in the field of sports at interuniversity competitions.
The principal in-charge of the college, Prof Jainendra Kumar, said about 20 teams from different colleges of the university were taking part in the chess meet. He sought cooperation from the university to boost sports activities in the college.
Sports in-charge of the college, Prof Kaushlendra Kumar Singh, said the winners of the meet would represent MU at the interuniversity chess competition at Cuttack in Odisha next month.
Meanwhile, the MU has already decided to complete indoor and outdoor games at different venues in Patna, Gaya and other places by the end of this year, sources said.
