A Nando's restaurant in Auckland will hold an E-grade food rating for at least 90 days after cockroaches were found in one of the store's benches.

Auckland Council closed the West City Waitakere branch after a pest control inspection on October 10, the store was closed to allow for a clean of the store, according to Fairfax.

Food rating grades:

A - Very low food safety risk

B - Low food safety risk

C - Some concerns to be addressed

D - Identified risks

E - Serious risks

The food chain operates stores throughout the country and all other Auckland stores hold an A-grade rating.

"This was an isolated case and there has been no impact to the safety of our customers," Nando's New Zealand general manager Garth Parker told Fairfax.

"[The store] continues to operate in a manner consistent with its previous A-grade rating."

Nando's West City Waitakere will hold the E-grade until re-grading next year.
