AGRA: Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's “Maan Ki baat” programme on September 24, a 55-year-old farmer of Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh has decided to donate "Rs 1 lakh”, which he received under UP government’s loan-waiver scheme, to the swachhta abhiyan.
Talking to TOI, Nimendra Pal Singh Jadaun of Khitauli village said that he never misses to listen to Maan Ki Baat programme of PM and on September 24 when the PM was appreciating the efforts of Bilal Dar, an 18-year-old boy from Bandipora district of North Kashmir, for cleaning up Wular Lake, he was inspired and decided to do something for cleanliness and has written letter in this regard to the PM and the CM.

“I have expressed my desire to donate amount of Rs 1 lakh to Swachh Bharat Mission programme and today the district magistrate called me to know my wish,” said Jadaun.
Jadaun is a well educated person and believes in hard work. Holding BA and B.Ed degrees, Jaudaun works on his six bigha farm land and also teaches in a private school. He said, “This one lakh will be useful for those who can't make toilets on their own, which is required for cleaning our nation."
Regarding the loan amount, he said he can work and his sons will help him to repay the loan amount for now. “I had taken loan for crops so can meat all expenses. Now my sons have started working so they will help repay the loan,” he said.
District Magistrate Amit Singh said that Jadaun has expressed his desire of donating amount of Rs 1 lakh and we are completing the formalities.
In April this year, the UP government had decided to waive off farm loans of up to Rs 1 lakh for small and marginal farmers, which benefited more than 2.25 crore farmers in the state and cost the state exchequer nearly Rs 30,000 crore.
The waiver scheme has come under the scanner lately as many districts reported that some farmers received refunds amounting as petty as Rs 1 or Rs 1.50.
