Des Moines, IA - State Senator Nate Boulton, Democratic candidate for governor, made the following statement after AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa Inc. withdrew from the Iowa Health Link managed care program.

“For months we have been hearing that the privatized Medicaid system that was unilaterally instituted by Governor Branstad, and now continued by Governor Reynolds, has failed patients and providers alike. Today we saw that even the managed care organizations cannot survive in this system, as AmeriHealth announced its departure,” said Boulton. “Governor Reynolds had a golden opportunity when she was sworn in to end the privatized Medicaid mess, but chose to continue a system she knew was not working. Iowa needs a governor who will put Iowans first, rather than protect legacies and party positions. Over 200,000 of our most vulnerable citizens will now have to scramble to change providers and relearn their coverage options because of their governor’s failure to act.”
