VIJAYAWADA: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday caught Gudivada Municipal Commissioner N Pramod Kumar red-handed accepting a bribe of `1.10 lakh from a contractor. ACB Director General (DG) RP Thakur said civil contractor Koya Venkata Akka Rao had completed a few works proposed by the municipality in Gudivada town, after which he approached Kumar for clearance of his pending bills of about `37 lakh.

Despite Akka Rao’s repeated pleas to the Commissioner, the latter reportedly demanded a payment of `1.10 lakh as bribe. Not willing to pay illegal gratification, the contractor approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.  “Pramod Kumar demanded three percent share of the bills, which is `1.10 lakh. We stormed into his office as he was taking the bribe and caught him red-handed. The bribe was recovered from under a file,” said DSP VV Prasada Rao.
