Sharon Osbourne says she didn’t want the girls on The X Factor because ‘they tear my heart out’.

This year Sharon is mentoring Holly Tandy, Rae-Elle and Grace Davies in the competition.

In an interview with Event magazine, she confessed that she was reluctant to take on the girls because of the ‘responsibility’.

Sharon said: ‘I didn’t want the girls. I felt it was too much responsibility. They are so young. They are babies. They tear my heart out. But then I made the decision to get on board and to do it my way.’

And she is fiercely protective of them, making sure they are looking after themselves while they’re in the X Factor house, and she refuses to let them wear anything too revealing.

‘I’m not having any of that, we’ve gone way too far down that route in the music business, and if it means having a fight over an outfit, I will win because something has to be done to stop this over-sexualisation of young girls. I’m not having any of it,’ she said.

Mrs O, who won The X Factor in 2013 with Sam Bailey, also revealed that she will be back for next year’s series.

Asked if she will be retiring, she said: ‘I’ve slowed down but I’m not retiring. I think I have five more years in me.

‘I’m signed up to do another year of X Factor, so no one’s getting rid of me quite yet.’
