The Comedy Wildlife Awards have returned for 2017 and they are funnier than ever.
Vying to be crowned the animal kingdom’s top joker is a grooving kangaroo, an exasperated owl, and a snow monkey pondering its existence.
A gurning gorilla is certainly hilarious, but is it funnier than some sneaky owls, or a couple of fighting fox cubs?
Comedian Hugh Dennis and TV presenter will be helping some of the expert judges pick a winner.
The winning entries must have top notch photography, but most importantly, they must be hilarious.
Could it be this plane stupid giraffe?
Or this snow monkey pondering it’s existence?
What about these snuggling owls?
These two are already winning at life

The awards were founded by Tanzania-based photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam.
They wanted to put a spotlight on conservation efforts while simultaneously injecting some humour into the world of wildlife photography.
Mr Sullam said: ‘Conservation was always at the heart of the competition, along with the fact that people seemed to enjoy images of animals doing entertaining things!
‘But essentially living in a country that has some of the best wildlife in the world – Tanzania – and seeing how destructive human actions can be to this wildlife, made us want to do our little bit to help.
‘Raising awareness through photography, getting people involved and using humour as a positive reinforcement of the good things, rather than focusing on the negative imagery that has historically been used.’

What’s so funny?
Mr Joynson-Hicks said: ‘The images are shortlisted by how funny they are and the technical quality of their photograph, subsequently the final 40 are judged purely on their humour and content.’
In addition to this year’s competition, CWPA has just launched two books, the ‘Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards’ and ‘Wild and Crazy: Photos from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards’.
This year’s edition has picked 40 finalists out of 3,500 entries from 86 countries.
Winners of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards will be announced on December 14th.
