BHUBANESWAR: Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari for declaration of Bargarh to Basna state road as new national highway (NH).
Pradhan in his letter stated that remote places like Basna, Jagdalpur, Padampur and Bijepur are very underprivileged areas owing to non-availability of proper communication.

“People of these places undergo lot of difficulties due to lack of road connectivity. Most of the people staying here belong to tribal and other backward category. Declaring Bargarh to Basna state road covering about 125 km into NH will mitigate the sufferings of the residents of the area,” said Pradhan in the letter.
Pradhan wrote the letter after getting request from former Bijepur MLA Ashok Kumar Panigrahy. The minister requested Gadkari for a favourable consideration of the request.
