Two sick babies brought from Nalgonda’s State-run orphanage to the Niloufer Hospital here for treatment were shifted to a private corporate hospital late on Saturday.

Sources in the health administration maintained that the decision to shift the babies, a two-month-old and a three-month-old, to the private hospital, was taken by the Nalgonda district administration. They, however, did not attribute the move to quality of care provided to the babies at Niloufer Hospital.

Three infants were being treated at Niloufer Hospital after their condition warranted specialist care. The babies had been brought to Niloufer Hospital in an emaciated state, with severe dehydration caused by diarrhoea. It also came to light last week that 11 babies that were orphaned at Nalgonda’s Sishu Vihar had died of ill-health in the last three months.

When they were shifted to the private hospital, the two babies, one male and another female , presented seizures and diarrhoea respectively. While the health of both infants was said to have improved on Sunday, the female baby continues to remain in intensive care.
