Six-year old Ongole girl hung on to the grills of the capsized boat after her grandparents drowned

Six-year old Ongole girl hung on to the grills of the capsized boat after her grandparents drowned
In the face of the Krishna River tragedy, which took away the lives of 19 people on board, Ujwala Sai Pasupuleti, a six-year-old from Ongole, literally hung on for dear life, holding the grills of the capsizing boat. A fisherman passing by on a smaller boat rescued the class two braveheart, but sadly her beloved grandparents drowned along with the overloaded boat carrying 39 passengers. She was then shifted to the hospital for preliminary aid.

“The three had gone to the riverside for Aarti. We didn't get to know about the incident until 7:30 pm and were aghast when we saw it on TV. We called our relatives who live near the place, they went and took Ujwala to their home,”
recounts Ram Krishna, her maternal uncle.
For Ujwala’s parents, the moment is both bittersweet and disturbing. “I don’t know what to feel, I lost my parents but my daughter is with me,” says Satish Kumar, whose parents bodies were recovered by late night.
Apparently, the class second student of Sri Chaitanya Techno School remained withdrawn even as the last rites of her grandparents were conducted on Monday. "We haven’t asked her about the details yet. She is visibly shaken. She was withdrawn through the last rites of her grandparents. She has always been a brave girl, and continued to be so as she went through it all alone without even crying,” says Ram Krishna.
