Rohtas DM asked to get dist ODF claim verified
PATNA: Perturbed by reports of large-scale financial irregularities in the toilet construction scheme from different districts, the state government on Monday asked the Rohtas administration to get the verification done by a third party before declaring the district as the “first open defecation free (ODF) district” of Bihar.
“Recently, the state government received a proposal from Rohtas administration for declaring it the state’s first ODF district.
But we have asked Rohtas DM to get it verified from an independent agency the claim about construction and use of toilets in each panchayat,” chief minister Nitish Kumar said here on Monday.
Responding to a query on the multi-crore toilet scam in Patna district and reports of similar irregularities in a few other districts also, CM said guilty persons would not be spared. “Strict action will be taken against all those found guilty of embezzling public money,” Nitish said.
Power meet cancellation embarrassing: CM
CM Nitish Kumar on Monday expressed displeasure over the cancellation of power ministers’ conference at Rajgir on November 10-11 at the last moment and said the decision was “impractical” and caused “embarrassment”. He said several delegates had already reached Rajgir and Patna and some were at Delhi airport when they got the information about the cancellation of the event. The meet was cancelled on November 9 evening. “It was a Centre’s event and Bihar government was just a facilitator,” he said. Nitish also pooh-poohed the allegations that the state government had spent crores of rupees on preparations for the event.
