Guard fights off two armed robbers, stops ATM heist in Outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala area

A security guard fought off two armed men, who tried to rob a cash van in Outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala area on Wednesday, police said. According to police, the two men tried to barge into the SBI ATM near Majra Dabas village when cash was being filled into it, around 2 pm. Security guard Dilip Tiwari put up a fight, preventing the armed men from running away with the cash. However, they managed to snatch his gun and flee. Tiwari was shot on his right thigh during the scuffle and was taken to a hospital, where he has been discharged after treatment, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M N Tiwari said police are yet to make any arrest and have registered a case under sections 394 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
“The two men were wearing helmets. One of the men got down and pointed his pistol at the guard, who tried to fight him off,” said a senior police officer privy to the investigation.

“In the ensuing scuffle, the other man got down from the bike and entered the ATM and dragged out one of the employees. However, they were unable to take the money,” the officer added. Police arrived at the spot and, on the basis of the security guard’s statement, registered a case at Kanjhawala police station. Police said they have recovered CCTV footage from the area, which has captured the entire incident, but are yet to ascertain the identity of the gunmen.
