Christian TV producer challenging Sen. Ted Cruz in GOP primary

Bruce Jacobson, who used to work in the Reagan administration, is lambasting politicians who are 'blinded by their own political agendas.'

AUSTIN — Christian TV producer Bruce Jacobson announced Thursday that he's running against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the 2018 Republican primary.

In a speech, Jacobson touted his conservative upbringing and values, calling Ronald Reagan his hero.

"He brought honor back to our country, and in my mind, he brought honor to the term 'politician,'" Jacobson said. "Reagan went to Washington to serve, not be served, and he had the ability to draw coalitions together to move forward a conservative agenda."

"Most politicians today are far more interested in serving themselves and their own agendas rather than serving the people who elected them," Jacobson said. "Blinded by their own political ambition, nothing ever gets done, and we have political gridlock. Now with a Republican in the White House and a Republican majority in Congress, it makes no sense that we can't move forward a conservative agenda. Most of this gridlock comes from the obstructionists in the Senate."

Jacobson is well-known among Christian conservatives. He was also a special guest at an October fundraiser for Texans for Texas, a super PAC that formed about a year ago. The group has raised about $25,000 for the 2018 elections.

Jacobson joins two other Republican challengers in the race: Houston energy lawyer Stefano de Stefano and Dan McQueen, the former Corpus Christi mayor who quit after 37 days. The primary elections will be held March 6.
