'Mr Smooth': Commuters hail 'Barry White of the DLR' for hilarious silky-voiced train announcements

A train announcer dubbed the "Barry White of London’s transport network” has been delighting commuters with his silky voice and daily quips.

Scores of passengers travelling on the Docklands Light Railway in east London have remarked on the unknown worker’s “sultry” and “seductive” announcements.

“If Thursday was a woman, I don’t think I’d marry her. I’d marry a Friday, everybody loves Friday,” the smooth-talker said in an announcement, recorded by an amused passenger.

This week, he told train passengers: “It’s chilly out there tonight so be sure to grab yourself a smooth, delicious hot chocolate” before finishing with an: “Ooh yeah.”

His attempt to brighten up the daily commute has been met with huge popularity among travellers.

“Very possibly the best DLR announcer tonight #smooth,” wrote Ian Kemp on Twitter, while another traveller asked: "When is his album dropping?"

Another passenger, called Bianca, wrote online: “Omg I got the seductive announcer on the DLR tonight!” while Kirsty Hildred wrote: “Just had Mr Smooth the announcer on the DLR. Brightened up my Friday no end.”

David Stockley said he’s heard the DLR announcer several times, adding: “He’s brilliant, keep it up.”

Another person said online: “I’ve got a lot of time for the DLR announcer who does his announcements in a smooth porno voice and ends with an “ooohhh yeahhh”.

Train users have noticed the conductor’s announcements on DLR services to and from Woolwich and Lewisham for several months - although his identity is under wraps.

Earlier this year, a woman tweeted a clip of his voice while another said he “brightened my dreary day with them silky smooth tones. Oooohhhh yeeeaaah.”

It is not the first time a TfL worker has made the most of their tannoy to entertain passengers.

In February this year, a Tube employee at Victoria station was called a "legend" for his funny, fast-paced platform announcements.
