Thomas Christiansen hailed his Leeds side after beating Middlesbrough

Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski netted for Leeds before Britt Assombalonga’s controversial penalty brought Boro back into the game.

However, the Whites held on for a crucial three points against their old boss Garry Monk.

And Christiansen says Leeds expected to beat Boro today, also hailing his side for their efforts at Elland Road.

“It was perfect, what I expected from the team, what they were prepared to do, they did it,” said Christiansen after the game.

“The team played very good, we worked hard over the last two weeks and we believed that we would take the three points.

“They all did what they had to do, they took responsibility and showed character in a game which we controlled.”

Leeds needed the three points after losing six of their last seven league games.

The win sends Leeds up to seventh in the Championship table, level on points with Boro after 17 games.

Christiansen’s side are back in action on Wednesday night when the Whites travel to league leaders Wolves.

The Midlands side have won five of their last six after beating Reading yesterday and are in fine form under Nuno.
