Adulteration thrives in Karimnagar district

Adulteration of food has assumed an alarming proportion in Karimnagar, considered the third biggest city in the state after Hyderabad and Warangal.

KARIMNAGAR: Adulteration of food has assumed an alarming proportion in Karimnagar, considered the third biggest city in the state after Hyderabad and Warangal. Eateries in the city are having a field day as there is no official to inspect them. Due to lack of food inspector and other staff, mineral water plants and eateries and snacks-making units are allegedly indulging in rampant adulteration.

If anybody wants to complain about adulterated food or food made in unhygienic conditions in any eatery, there is hardly any one, except an attender, in the food inspector’s office  to lend them an ear. A food inspector has to come from Nizamabad, roughly 150 km from town, to conduct the proceedings.
It is only the police department which is conducting raids on hotels to keep a tab on food adulteration. Karimnagar police commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy has to seek the help of Nizamabad district food inspector to collect samples from eateries.

According to Nizamabad district food inspector P Amrutha, whenever Karimnagar police conduct raids they invite her to inspect the seized material which has to be sent to a laboratory in Hyderabad for testing. There is only one attender, R Susheela, in the food inspector’s office in Karimnagar. She would be handed the seized food by task force.
