LONDON — Jeremy Corbyn has accused the government of being in a "shambles" over Brexit and that it has "no strategy to deliver a good Brexit" at Prime Minister's Questions.

The Labour leader attacked Theresa May and the government over having "no energy, no agreed plan and no strategy to deliver a good Brexit for Britain."

Corbyn said on Wednesday: "When it comes to Brexit this government is a shambles... 17 months after the referendum they say there can be no hard border but haven't worked out how. They say they'll protect workers' rights, then vote against it, they say they'll protect environmental rights, then vote against it.

"Once again the Foreign Secretary [Boris Johnson] offers his opinions, as does the Environment Secretary [Michael Gove] saying there is "insufficient energy" going into these Brexit negotiations — isn't the truth this govt has no energy, no agreed plan and no strategy to deliver a good Brexit for Britain?"

Johnson and Gove sent a secret letter to the prime minister in which they criticised the way Brexit negotiations were being handled, accusing some parts of the government of not preparing with "sufficient energy" for the UK's exit.

The prime minister retorted that "the party in this Commons that has no clue on Brexit is the Labour party," and Corbyn "talks down our country and is pessimistic about our future."

May said: "I'm optimistic about our future, I'm optimistic about the success we can make of Brexit, I'm optimistic about the well-paid jobs that can be created, I'm optimistic about the homes we can build. That's Conservatives building a Britain fit for the future. All he offers is a blast from the past."
