Goa, India’s little sunshine state: travel photo of the week

Vivid, vibrant Panjim market in Goa caught the eye of photographer Annapurna Mellor on her first trip to the state

“I arrived in India’s smallest and most touristy state, followed some backpackers to Anjuna and collapsed in a dorm bed to the distant sounds of techno.” This was photographer Annapurna Mellor’s introduction to Goa and she thought she’d hate it. But she explored the world away from the all-night raves and fell hard for the “little sunshine state” with its markets (such as Panjim, seen here), fishing villages, fort ruins and golden beaches. “It was my first glimpse of south India and I found a different energy there than in the north. More than anything, Goa was a place to re-energise.”
