Alipurduar court sends notice to Mukul Roy
KOLKATA: An Alipurduar court on Monday issued a showcause notice to BJP leader Mukul Roy, asking why it shouldn’t proceed against him for defying its restraint order.
Based on a petition by Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, the court had on November 21 restrained Royfrom making any statement linking Banerjee in any way with two organisations — Biswa Bangla Marketing Corporation Limited and Jago Bangla Media Private Limited — or any other body with which Banerjee does not have any link.

Roy, instead, not only levelled fresh charges but also moved court in Patiala House complex in New Delhi levelling criminal defamation charges against Banerjee. The court will hear the appeal on December 1.
According to sources, Banerjee is likely to file a criminal defamation case against Roy in Bankshall court on Tuesday. Sources further said the Trinamool leader might be present during the court hearing.
Roy’s allegations of November 25 had prompted Banerjee to move the Alipurduar court, claiming the statements were a blatant disregard of its November 21 order. Moving a contempt plea, Banerjee also sought “attachment of the assets and properties owned and/or controlled by Mukul Roy namely Jayanta Hazra House at Ghatak Road, Octave Diagnostic & Eye Care Centre, Mohanpur Nadia, JNMS Academy, Kanchrapara; and Octave Clinic & Diagnostic Centre, Bagmore Kanchrapara”.
Banerjee further sought a court order to Roy directing him to publish an apology and even “detaining Mukul Roy in civil prison for deliberately disobeying the order dated 21st November 2017”.
