Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a rally in Morbi, Saurashtra. With just less than two weeks left for the crucial Gujarat Assembly elections to begin, PM is leaving no holds barred in his campaign for control of the home state. PM Modi will address four public meetings in Saurashtra and south Gujarat today. The Prime Minister will also travel through, Prachi, Palitana and finally end the day at Navasari. PM said in his opening remarks, “I have had ties with Morbi in happiness and sorrow.”

Talking about SAUNI Yojana, PM said that his government has built huge pipelines with it. Dams in Saurashtra are being filled due to SAUNI Yojana. But, the Congress cannot see all this.

Speaking on Gujarat’s water crisis, PM said “we initiated a mass movement to conserve every drop of water. This is because we understand the adverse impact of lack of water. Development for us is not about winning polls, it is about serving every citizen

PM Modi criticised Congress and said “when Indira Ben came to Morbi, I remember there was a photo of her in Chitralekha Magazine with a hanky over her nose due to the foul smells, but for Jansangh/RSS the streets of Morbi are fragrant, its the fragrance of humanity.” PM Modi also said that his government has turn adversity into opportunity in Morbi. Taking a jibe at Congress, PM said that its development model is hand pump whereas BJP’s is Narmada project. Launching more attacks on Congress, PM says, “In good and bad times, the Jan Sangh and the BJP have stood with the people of Morbi. One cannot say the same about the Congress and their leaders.”

Lastly, PM Modi said “Those who have looted people throughout their life, they can only remember dacoits,” PM said this in a reply to Gandhi’s ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ jibe.

He said Gandhi was propagating a ‘grand stupid thought’ in the name of GST, telling people that they will slash all tax rates and make it 18 per cent.

Modi also spoke of floods in Gujarat and said that he spent one full month working with those affected by the flood. He added that there were many families where all the members were tied in the disaster.

PM Modi also said that for him what matters most is the wellbeing of people. He added, “Even when we were not in power we were with the people of Morbi and serving society and brought many initiatives such as soil health cards that benefit our farmers.
