Madhubani celebrates district status
MADHUBANI: Braving chilly wind, schoolchildren took out a march on Friday to commemorate the formation of Madhubani district.
Carved out of old Darbhanga district, Madhubani became a separate district on this date in 1972. It was earlier a subdivision of undivided Darbhanga district.
Later in the day, the district administration organised a ‘Sthapna Diwas’ function, which was inaugurated by district magistrate Shirshat Kapil Ashok on the local Watson School premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the DM recalled the educational, cultural and socio-political eminence of the district. He also released a book, The Living Legends of Mithila, written by Vivekanand Jha, on the occasion.
The Zila Parishad chairperson and top district officials apart from a large number of citizens, including women and children, attended the function. Various government departments had also put up their stalls. A cultural programme was also held in the Town Hall in the evening.
