Leaders of the district unit of BJP have ‘dared’ Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to inspect the ongoing Karimnagar City Renovation (KCR) project for beautification of the 14.5-km R&B roads that has been progressing at a snail’s pace and is plagued by allegations of irregularities.

The CM is on a three-day visit to Karimnagar town to inspect the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) works. The BJP leaders said the project has been hit by inordinate delay, causing serious inconvenience to people for the past three years.

Talking to newsmen on Wednesday, BJP district vice president Kotte Muralikrishna alleged that the TRS government, in the name of KCR project, had caused loss to Karimnagar town by not ensuring smooth execution of developmental works despite allocating ₹100 crore for the purpose.

BJP town president Bethi Mahender Reddy charged that the Chief Minister promised to transform Karimnagar town on the lines of London and New York. “But, it has gone from bad to worse due to unscientific execution of R&B roads and side drains over three years,” he complained. He said that the CM should personally inspect the development works and punish officials and contractors for siphoning off public money.

The BJP leaders alleged that local residents were suffering from various ailments due to mosquito problem, which have resulted from waterlogging in the side-drains. They demanded that the government order an inquiry into the R&B roads quality and take criminal action against the contractors.
