HYDERABAD: Within a span of 24 hours, the city's minimum temperature dropped from 15.9 to 12.7 degree Celsius on Monday - the lowest temperature recorded in December so far. According to weathermen, this sharp dip in mercury level though usual during winter, has occurred early this year as compared to the past three winters.
Officials attributed this to a reduced air pressure and said the temperature that's been witnessing a gradual drop, is likely to fall further over the next couple of days.
The minimum temperature in Hyderabad, as per records, stood at 18.7 degree Celsius on December 1.
"The temperature will continue to be low for the next two days following which is will observe rise," said YK Reddy, in-charge director of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad while predicting the minimum temperature in isolated parts of Telangana to remain three-four degrees below normal. "There is western disturbance from west to east which is causing drop in the mercury level," Reddy added.
On Monday, data available with the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) showed Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru recording the lowest minimum temperature - over a 24 hour span - at 9.2 degree Celsius. It was followed by Moula Ali at 10.1 degree Celsius and Kapra at 10.4 degree Celsius.

Although no cold wave warning was sounded by the IMD, residents said that they could distinctly feel the chill in the air, especially during early morning hours, which had been missing so far.
"On Monday when I woke up to go for morning walk, I could suddenly feel the drop in temperature as it was considerably colder than the preceding weekend," said S Anupriya, a resident of Banjara Hills.
But while the city may see a marginal increase in temperature, as per official predictions, the TSDPS forecast indicates that the minimum temperature might be 2 to 3 degree below normal over most parts of Telangana's northern and central districts that are currently recording minimum temperatures in the range 11 to 18 degree Celsius.
