Endowments officer worth `50 cr in ACB net

Close on the heels of one assistant commissioner (AC) Medepalli Vijayaraju of the endowments department being arrested for amassing disproportionate assets to his known sources

VIJAYAWADA: Close on the heels of one assistant commissioner (AC) Medepalli Vijayaraju of the endowments department being arrested for amassing disproportionate assets to his known sources of income about a month ago, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Tuesday netted another officer Seelam Surya Chandrasekhar Azad from Rajamahendravaram.  

ACB officials unearthed properties worth over `50 crore (market value) from Azad, who is a regional joint commissioner (RJC) of the endowments department in Rajamahendravaram. He has been charged with misappropriation of temple funds.

After a tip off that the RJC amassed huge amount of assets, ACB officials conducted raids and found properties worth `4 crore (book value). In the searches conducted in Vijayawada, Rajamahendravaram, Eluru, Nuzvid, Anantapur and Hyderabad, officials seized property documents, `5 lakh cash in bank accounts and gold ornaments worth `12 lakh. They further found `6 lakh recurring deposit in accused officer’s bank.
