VIJAYAWADA: DGP N Sambasiva Rao presented the second edition of Award for Best Crime Detection (ABCD) - to eight police officers in the State. He also gave away prizes to 13 police officers under IPS awards. Following in the footsteps of CM Chandrababu Naidu who began ranking his ministerial colleagues and legislators based on their performance, Sambasiva Rao initiated a similar exercise by rewarding cops with ranks and awards in 2016.
Addressing the media at his office here on Wednesday, the DGP said the AP Crime Investigation Department (APCID) officials tracked difficult cases reported in all the 800 police stations and filtered 19 cases which entailed meticulous work during investigation. Of the 19 cases, eight were selected as best further dividing them into three categories.
The basic idea behind introducing ABCD is to improve investigation process and promote the use of advanced technology among police officials. He further said the awards would be given to those who think out-of-the-box and show enthusiasm in unravelling mysterious cases. “With ABCD, we got an opportunity to congratulate the eight cops for solving critical cases in a record time. An appreciation letter and a cash prize has been given to them,” the DGP said.
