HYDERABAD: A 53-year-old man — hailing from Karimnagar district — succumbed to his injuries last Friday, after he was shot by robbers at a mart in USA’s Ohio.
Around 10pm on December 4, Fairfield resident Karunakar Karengle was working at a local Jiffy Mart in Cincinnati’s Dixie Highway, when two armed assailants entered the mart and went on a shooting spree. After robbing cash, the miscreants fled the scene.
Karengle was hospitalized with bullet injuries, where he succumbed on December 8. Fairfield police asked citizens to help identify two suspects.
Karengle’s brother-in-law Mahesh launched a GoFund-Me memorial online campaign to raise funds for his sister Vijaya and nephew Aniket, who live in India.

Mahesh wrote, “My brother-in-law was hardworking and considerate. He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He sunk into debt in India and travelled to the US a few years ago to earn money and support his family and give them abetter life, especially for their son’s education. He would work 7 days a week almost 12 hours a day, to make ends meet. My nephew Aniket is a smart kid with a promising future and deserves support. He is in Class 12.”
“Although the GoFundMe project may never help them get over this irreversible loss, it will ease their financial burden. This memorial fund will primarily help my sister, a homemaker, with funeral expenses, pay for my nephew’s education and give them hope in grief. I need help from you, your friends and family who believe in my cause. No contribution is small and every bit helps. No words can express my gratitude for your time and contribution,” the petition read.
