7 injured in another jumbo attack

DAVANGERE/CHITRADURGA/SHIVAMOGGA:In yet another attack, the wild tusker that wreaked havoc recently has struck again, injuring seven persons in Davangere and Chitradurga districts. The tusker injured Suresh, Mudiyappa and Basamma, before killing a bull at Talikatte, Chitradurga, on Friday afternoon.

Four persons and two cows were injured near Gollarahalli, Ghantyapura and Hosadevarahalli areas in Honnali Taluk of Davangere district on Thursday.Honnali taluk villagers were in for a shock when the same tusker was spotted near Gollarahalli on Thursday. Taluk office sources said the tusker also attacked two cows at Hosadevarahalli village, throwing one with its trunk and seriously injuring it.

At Ghantyapura village, it saw some people working near a field and attacked them. Rudribai (43), Parvathibai (35) and Bharamappa (39) were injured. It also entered an areca plantation at Thakkanahalli and Kammaraghatte villages and damaged trees, forest officials said. One Nagaraj was also injured in the attack and all four were immediately given treatment and later moved to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga for further treatment.

The elephant finally reached the forest area at Haleshpura village in Channagiri taluk at night, said forest officer Devaraj. Speaking to Express, Honnali RFO Veeresh Nayak said on the wee hours of Thursday, the tusker moved towards Itagi, Chikka Devanahalli, Madapura, Shettihalli and Kanchiganal. It reached Talikatte on Friday. It injured Suresh, Mudiyappa and Basamma, before injuring a bull at Talikatte on Friday afternoon.One among them was a youth riding a motorbike who panicked after seeing the elephant on the road, fell down and got injured.
