KALABURAGI: Two families were furious on Friday over newborns being given to the wrong mothers at the Kalaburagi district hospital.
Nandamma Shekhar Pujari of Konasirasagi village (Jewargi taluk) and Najabi of Kadamagera village in Shahapur, Yadgir, were admitted to the district hospital on Thursday. Both delivered babies at 10pm and because they were underweight, they were moved to the NICU ward.
Paediatrician Dr Girish and gynaecologist Dr Nanda attended to the deliveries in which both mothers lost consciousness after delivery.
District hospital superintendent Dr Balachandra N Joshi said the paediatrician and gynaecologist wrote a description of the delivery on the case sheet, but Grade D employees took babies from the NICU ward and gave them incorrectly to the mothers' attendants.
Nandamma's father Yamanappa said on Thursday, night hospital staff gave them a baby boy but after a while, they took him back and said Nandamma had given birth to a baby girl. On Thursday, Yamanappa and Najabi's mother Abida met probationary IPS officer Lokesh and complained about the mistake. Lokesh told TOI he called the doctors as well as attendants of both mothers. After a discussion, the doctors assured them they would conduct a blood test and based on the report, they would give the babies to their right mothers.
Dr Joshi said the blood report will be available on Saturday.
