Youth killed in Patna as crime cases in district on rise this year

PATNA: Unidentified criminals shot dead one Dharmendra Kumar Yadav (25) of Mandiri locality on Friday midnight. His body was spotted by a police patrolling team by the roadside at Rukanpura under the Rupaspur police station area in the city at 2am on Saturday.
Rupaspur police station SHO Deepak Kumar said Yadav was an accused in molestation and snatching cases and had been to jail twice in the past.

This is the latest in a series of serious criminal activities in the district in the recent past. As per the state police headquarters data, the law and order situation in the state capital has deteriorated this year compared to 2016.
According to Bihar police data, 21,621 cases of cognisable offence, including 213 murders, were reported in Patna between January and October this year. Gaya followed with 9,314 cases of cognisable offence, including 146 of murders. Altogether 53 cases of dacoity, 136 of robbery, 700 of burglary, 969 kidnappings and 3,936 thefts were reported in Patna district during this period. Muzaffarpur reported 260 burglary, 416 kidnapping and 1,990 theft cases.
Total 575 riot incidents were reported in Patna, followed by 554 in Saharsa. Altogether 75 rape cases, 34 road dacoities and 130 road robberies took place in the district during this period.
Compared to this year, there were 17,216 cognisable offences in Patna district between January and October 2016, including 216 murders, 26 dacoities, 148 robberies, 646 burglaries, 3,219 thefts, 635 riots, 862 kidnappings and 3 cases of kidnapping for ransom, 66 rape cases, 11 road dacoities and 111 road robberies.
The Saturday murder took place just a day after one Tarkeshwar Kumar was shot at in Jaganpura under the Kankarbagh police station area on Thursday. The incident was a loot attempt and the youth was shot at in his back after he resisted the loot attempt. On Wednesday, two bike-borne armed criminals fired at least six rounds at Kesri Medical Agency under the Bihta police station area after shopowners Raju and Sanjeev Bharti failed to pay Rs10 lakh ransom demanded by the criminals earlier. No one has been arrested so far in the case. Uday cinema hall proprietor Nirbhay Singh was shot dead in the Bihta bazaar on September 15 this year.
