Murder-arson suspect brought to crime scene

TANJUNG SEPAT: The suspect in the murder-arson case of an elderly couple and their two grandchildren was brought back to the crime scene by police.

The 38-year-old man, who was seen wearing a purple shirt, orange lock-up pants and a hat and mask, was escorted by several policemen.

They were at the scene of the fire at Jalan Tepi Laut, between 11.30am and 1.20pm yesterday.

A deaf-mute man, believed to be the boyfriend of the couple’s daughter, was earlier arrested and remanded in connection with the case.

The motive is believed to be over a financial dispute.

The suspect, who works at a furniture factory, was arrested on Friday during a raid at a shoplot in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

Chia Tee Nang, 73, Lim Mai Shak, 68, and their grandsons Ryan Chia Zeng Xi, 10, and Chia Yuan Bin, three, died in the fire on Dec 13.

Another grandson, aged 12, survived the attack and is being treated in a hospital.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said he had directed Selangor police to create a special team for the case.

“What is important at this stage is to gather evidence so we can connect the arrest to the scene,” he said.

On a separate matter, Noor Rashid did not rule out there could be more arrests over the smuggling of Bangladeshis by syndicates at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Noor Rashid said police had identified several Bangladesh nationals believed to be involved.

“The syndicate there (in Bangladesh) would gather its nationals before the syndicate here arranges for them to gain easy entry. So we are going all out for these three groups,” he said after the Inspector-General Endurance Cup Championship 2017 at the Equine Centre in Universiti Putra Malaysia here.
