SHIVAMOGGA: A day after a college student was stabbed in the city, BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa, met Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare on Saturday and urged him to arrest and extern all those involved in the incident.

On Friday, students of two communities studying in National PU College were involved in an altercation. Outsiders were called in from Tippu Nagar, sources said. In the melee, one Salim (name changed) sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital. This allegedly enraged Muslim students who planned to attack students belonging to a particular group. But the police intervened and chased them away, sources said.

On Friday evening, when Salman (name changed) of Akshara College was sitting with his friends of National PU College in Gandhi Park, a gang of three to four youths approached them and asked them whether they were students of National PU College, sources said. When Salman’s friend said they were from that college, the gang allegedly assaulted Salman with a knife. His friends took him to a hospital and a case was registered with Kote police station. Salman is said to be out of danger.

All those involved must be arrested within the next two days. Those who attacked Salman have to be arrested under IPC Section 370, Eshwarappa said, questioning why there was a delay in the arrest. The district police took out a route march on Saturday evening in the city.
